Tricky Words in this week‘s OVI

Manager. I would say this is the “normal” translation of riaditeľ. It's also possible to say “Director”, but this name is tricky because it also means a member of the Board of Directors (najvyšší správny orgán) of a joint-stock company (akciová spoločnosť), and it should NOT be used for riaditeľ školy, because that's the Head-teacher (BrE) or Principal (AmE) of a school. I would go on to say that traditionally a Manager manages PEOPLE whereas a Director directs THINGS (e.g. USSK Director Public Affairs), but nowadays there are also project managers, process managers, product managers, account managers and stage managers. The verb “to manage” can be tricky too. “I managed to do it” means “stihol som to urobiť”, and you don't “manage a meeting” but you can “arrange a meeting”.
