A very tricky word this week, due to the topicality of the subject and memories, whether enduring or revived, of the last presidential elections in the USA four years
ago. Prešov University political science lecturer Vladimír Dančišin specializes in the Slovak-named subject "volebné inžinierstvo". I have translated this as "electoral engineering", and I use the
English word in the same way as it is frequently applied these days to express the idea of "developing organization" or "strategy in practise" or "active design", as in "management engineering" or
"product engineering".
Obviously this has little to do with the older meaning of engineering, the designing and making of engines or machines, as in "strojárenstvo". On the other hand, to
"engineer" something can express the idea of purposefully arranging or manipulating results, but this idea should not be understood as the focus of Mr.Dančišin's research specialization.
