There are various tricky words in this week's extracts, so I shall go through them one by one. First of all award, which as a noun means something like a prize, and as
a verb has a similar meaning to give, so to translate "oceniť niekoho" it's necessary to say that they awarded them a prize, or they presented them with an award. Then pick, which means the same as
select or choose, which is what you do when you go looking or mushrooms in the forest. You only pick things up after you have dropped them on the ground, or you can pick somebody up from the
airport with your car.
Graduation - in the USA students are said to graduate when they complete high school (NB stredná škola), whereas in England various university degrees are conferred
(officially presented) at graduation ceremonies. Promotion - in English this word is not associated with university graduation, but with getting a better job and a higher position in a company or
organization
