Last week, at U. S. Steel Košice, TÜV SÜD Slovakia employees carried out an integrated audit for OSH (SMS) and environmental management (SME) systems.
ENVIRONMENT
INTRODUCTION
The technology of steel production has a significant impact on the environment. Production processes must therefore be constantly monitored for environmental effects, protective technologies must be utilized to their fullest extent, and technological discipline and information technology must be employed to reduce the environmental burden caused by steel-making processes.
Our company has launched an ambitious capital investment program to improve its environmental technology and performance, and to enhance production and quality processes. U. S. Steel Košice has invested hundreds of million dollars since 2000 to modernize existing production and environmental systems, and to install new facilities. This capital program significantly increased U. S. Steel Košice's capability to provide high quality, value-added products and services to customers, and to align our operations with environmental standards.
The USSK Environmental Department also oversees the application of new environmental codes at all management levels, and continuously educates employees regarding their implementation.
In addition, USSK implements environmental management systems in compliance with the full scope of ISO EN 14001.
Our goal is to continuously improve the environment not only for our employees, but also for the region in which our plant is located.
