System Approach
U. S. Steel Košice, s.r.o. (hereinafter USSK) possesses a highly-qualified and professionally skilled work-force. Investment in development of human resources is one of the priorities in the top management interests.
In 1992 we gained international QMS certification in line with EN ISO 9001 for our Hot Rolling Mill, as the first facility in Central and Eastern Europe. Since then QMS has been gradually introduced into all USSK organizational units. Nowadays USSK holds EN ISO 9001 and IATF 16 949 certificates for the automotive industries.
Systemic approach is demonstrated also in another areas and gradually the certified Management System for Environment (EN ISO 14001), Energy (EN ISO 50001) as well the Safety (EN ISO 45001) has been implemented in USSK .
We gained international certification for our Environmental Management System under EN ISO 14001 in 1997 for the Cold Rolling Mill DP and in 1998 for the Pipes DP. At the present time the Environmental management system of USSK is internationally certified according to EN ISO 14001 in our 4 division plants.
Environmental Management Systems are implemented in all other division plants.
In March 2013 company obtained international certificate of the energy management system according to Standard ISO 50001, that is valid for whole organization. Thereby the company became the one of the leaders in the energy management within the steel companies in the Europe.
Metrology performance assurance of our gauges, measurement systems and chemical analyses as well as testing of individual products are carried out by accredited U. S. Steel Košice laboratories, which are among the leaders in Slovakia. Our laboratories are accredited in compliance with ISO IEC 17025 requirements under the Slovak National Accreditation System (SNAS), which is part of the international organization ILAC.
To ensure ongoing improvement in all activities within USSK, the Continuous Improvement Process is being implemented, focusing on improvements in product quality, productivity and customer satisfaction, improvement in occupational safety and the working environment, as well as cost reduction.
USSK holds

Prize for Quality
On November 8, 2010 U. S. Steel Košice, s.r.o. achieved the highest acknowledgement of quality - the Slovak National Prize for Quality. This Prize is awarded to the winner of a competition whose principles are based on the European model of entrepreneurial excellence, consisting of nine criteria. Winning the Prize is the condition for participation in the European Prize for Quality, which is equivalent to the Malcolm Baldridge Award in the U.S.A.
