Top Women in Business 2021 with U. S. Steel Košice representation

Forbes magazine published on May 4 a list of the top women in Slovak business. These include Silvia Gaálová, Vice President and CFO, U. S. Steel Košice.

She has worked at U. S. Steel Košice for 20 years.  She became vice president and CFO in January 2018. In her position, she is responsible for financial planning and analysis, accounting, reporting, taxes, revenue management, transaction activities, banking and credit policy of U. S. Steel Košice s.r.o. and its subsidiaries.  In 2021, she and her team managed assets totaling €2.9 billion.  The net profit of U. S. Steel Košice, s.r.o. amounted to EUR 648 million.

"The year 2021 was the most successful year in the company's history in terms of economic result. The company expects that 2022 will also be a very successful year, but it may be influenced by the current situation in Ukraine and the further development of the pandemic," says Vice President Gaálová. It considers the decarbonization of industry to be the biggest challenge in the long term. Currently, her team is also working on the implementation of the new ERP corporate resource management system.

U. S. Steel Košice President Jim Bruno aknowledges the success of vice president Gaálová: “I have to say I am very proud of Silvia, and I am very happy to see her get the recognition she deserves.  She is an excellent leader in our company and is constantly looking at ways to help us make the business better.  I would like to say to her from all of her colleagues, and friends at work CONGRATULATIONS!!!”

In addition to a big financial responsibility, Vice-President Gaálová also has the normal duties of a wife and mother of two children.  "I get used to charging energy in the cottage, when walking in nature with a dog, ideally associated with mushroom harvesting" says Silvia Gaálová with a smile.
