At the beginning of June the War Room celebrated two years of existence. Company managers marked this occasion on June 8 in a meeting at the Medzev Training Center. "It's amazing to see what we've achieved through our combined efforts. I'm tremendously proud of you, and of the colleagues in the plant who can't be here with us today. In two years we have succeeded in implementing more than a thousand projects which are incredibly beneficial for the Company. Last year in fact the best project in the whole Corporation actually came from Košice. It's necessary to continue further along this road and come up with even more improvements," said U. S. Steel Košice President Scott Buckiso, acknowledging the results achieved.
In the War Room itself, the anniversary was an opportunity to announce the results of the Carnegie Spring Race competition to find the best team and individual efficiency projects. In the team category the best results were achieved by colleagues in the Blast Furnaces division, and the gilt cup trophy was accepted by Blast Furnaces division director Marek Jenčo. In the individual competition the award went to Jozef Farkaš from the Equipment Reliability section, who produced as many as eight initiatives last year. At the close of this War Room meeting, General Manager Transformation and Improvement of Processes Ján Petko introduced a new competition consisting of three modules: Carnegie multiplicator, Carnegie Summer Games and Lunch with the President, to which one employee with a winning project will be invited each month.
