Kosice, December 5, 2014 - Together with the opening of the Kosice Fairytale Christmas on Main Street, U. S. Steel Kosice will be opening its Christmas Charity Hut for the 9th year running. Till December 22nd eighteen non-profit organizations will be presenting their activities to the general public and the proceeds from public fund-raising will go towards their further development. The hut will be staffed by volunteers from the ranks of the employees and the students receiving Company support for their studies at college or university. Presenting their activities and services will be children's foster homes, civic associations for disabled children and adults, as well as medical and educational organizations. They provide beneficial services and will be delighted by the support of Kosice residents and visitors.

The fund-raising for some local health-care institutions during the pre-Christmas period has become another traditional charity activity of the Kosice steelmakers. The proceeds from their collection will be trebled, since the same sum as the amount given by the employees will also be contributed by the Company itself and by the U. S. Steel Kosice Foundation. In the last few years the steelmakers have collected tens of thousands of euros for a mobile resuscitation bed for the Children's Faculty Hospital or special equipment for the Louis Pasteur University Hospital in Kosice, the East Slovakian Institute for Cardio-vascular Diseases in Kosice, the East Slovakian Oncology Institute in Kosice and other health-care institutions. This year a respectable sum has been collected again, and with it U. S. Steel Kosice will be buying new USG equipment for the Children's Faculty Hospital to improve the diagnosing and treatment of the children. The amount itself will be announced during the Christmas Charity Concert on December 12th in the Kosice State Theatre. Lucia Soralova and Robo Opatovsky will be among the performing artists and highlights of the concert will be broadcast by RTVS on December 21st at 5.40 pm on Channel 2

And the steelmakers have also helped for the third time. They have been fulfilling children's desires through the Wishing Trees project since 2005. The employees take cards bearing children's wishes from the trees and buy presents which the children have been dreaming about. This year they have made children happy in the foster homes in Nizna Kamenica and Secovce as well as children in steelmakers' families experiencing difficult circumstances. Apart from the gifts and financial help, the recipients mainly appreciate the feeling of solidarity and experiences from many corporate events which they are invited to enjoy during the whole year, and which also help them to cope even in hard times.
