Kosice, August 20th 2007 - Fourteen students from six colleges are visiting U. S. Steel Kosice operations today as part of the 6th edition of the annual
international workshop named Metal Inspirations 2007. They will be using the inspirations gained in the steelworks when working on the scrap metal which they will be able to turn
into interesting works of art. This year they will be working on two set themes: Welcome to Kosice, and We get the world moving. In the first case they will be creating mock-ups of big billboards
advertising Kosice as a multi-cultural city with a rich history, cultural background, and natural and tourist attractions. The metal objects for the second theme are meant to represent the
development of car-driving in Slovakia and the production of high-quality car-body sheets on the new galvanizing line in Kosice.
This workshop has been co-organized since 2002 by U. S. Steel Kosice together with the Faculty of Design at the Technical University in Kosice and the
Vocational School for Metallurgy in Kosice-Saca. The young designers from Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Great Britain will be working on their creations this year once again in the
workshops at the Vocational School in Saca, where they will be assisted by the teachers and craftsmen in charge of specialist practical subjects. Metal Inspirations is one of the regular events
which the City of Kosice is using as a candidate for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2013. The artists will be presenting their metal artworks to the public during their
exhibition at the Slovak Technical Museum in Kosice from August 27th to September 30th 2007.
