Another Slovak is drafted overseas
Just a year after Vice-president for Strategic Implementation Anton Lukac left the Kosice company for the USA, now another Slovak manager, GM Financial Investments Miroslav Grela, is leaving to work overseas. With effect from May 1st he will be taking up the position of Manager for Commercial Development and Strategic Planning at USS headquarters in Pittsburgh, with special responsibility for eastward expansion. This position gives him a great opportunity to make use of his excellent knowledge of languages, because apart from English, which is a matter of course for his work, Miroslav Grela has no problem communicating in Russian or in Polish.
Ten years of the American Chamber of Commerce
Last week the American Chamber of Commerce celebrated the tenth anniversary of its foundation in Bratislava. The two-day program which was prepared to mark this
occasion was also attended by managers from U. S. Steel Kosice, namely Vice-president IT Peter Richardson, Vice-president Operations Scott Pape and his wife, Vice-president Technology
Michael A. Fedorenko and his wife, and Vice-president Personnel and Organization Martin Pitorak likewise with his wife.
At the General Meeting in the Bratislava Reduta on Friday the activities of the last year were summarized, progress was assessed, and the results of the elections to
the Executive Board were announced. One of its new members is the President of our Company Christopher Navetta. The gala evening the following day was intended to celebrate not only this
important anniversary for AmCham, but also a red-letter day for the Slovak Republic, which is to become a full member of the European Union in just a few days' time. To mark this occasion the
organizers prepared music and dance performances in the Old Market Place, followed by an impressive fireworks and laser show.
U. S. Steel Kosice trades unionists in discussions
On Wednesday of last week, April 21st, the Jumbo Center in Kosice was the venue for the Trades Union Conference of the U. S. Steel Kosice branch of the
Metalurg Trades Union. The congress was preceded by twelve evaluation conferences within the basic organizations at U. S. Steel Kosice.
The discussions brought together 103 delegates and 33 guests and were attended by Metalurg Trades Union Chairman Robert Kulik, U. S. Steel Kosice President
Christopher Navetta, Company Vice-presidents, General Managers and Divisional Managers. The report on the trades union's activities over the past year was presented by the Chairman of the Trades
Union Council of the USSK branch of Metalurg Mikulas Dula. As President of the Company, Christopher Navetta spoke on behalf of the USSK management.
Great participation, top-quality projects
It has become a tradition that every year at the beginning of the summer term the students of the Faculty of Metallurgy at the Technical University in Kosice get the
opportunity to present their own research projects atb the students' specialist research conference named Metalurgia.
Wednesday of last week, April 21st, saw this year's edition of the conference, which takes the form of a competition. Assessment commissions in six specialist
sections had to judge projects submitted by a total of 63 full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students, including eight from abroad, specifically from Poland and the Czech Republic.
U. S. Steel Kosice not only provided financial support for this event, but also took active part in its procedure, with specialists from the steelworks sitting as members of the
assessment commissions: Technical Department Manager Jan Gregor, GM Non-steel Production Unit ceramics specialist Miroslav Tatic, Head of Environmental Programs Section Jan Stanik, and QMS
Manager Anton Dobos.
