Breakfast with Rusko
On Friday of last week the Slovan Hotel in Kosice was the venue for another of the regular meetings with business people in Eastern Slovakia organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Slovakia. The working breakfast was attended by representatives of U. S. Steel Kosice and city and regional authorities, and the special guest was SR Minister for Trade and Industry Pavol Rusko.
Record May results at Strip Mill
In the month of May the Cold Strip Mill rolling-line workers managed a series of production records. In the words of Cold Strip Mill Division Manager Stanislav Petr, it is very pleasing that after modernization the 4-stand tandem is getting back into good condition. Division management expects the rolling line to be capable of working extremely productively and turning out high-quality material. This expectation is confirmed by the results achieved last month.
Refractory materials seen internationally
At Podbanske in the High Tatras a three-day international conference is now going on, entitled Refractory Materials, Furnaces and Heat Insulation. This event has been prepared by the Faculty of Metallurgy at the Technical University in Kosice, and is attended by specialists from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Serbia, France, Germany, South Korea and Canada. U. S. Steel Kosice is the general sponsor of the conference.
Landscape of Hope - the colorful imagination of children with physical disabilities
On Wednesday, June 2nd, an excellent mood reigned in the courtyard of the Slovak Technical Museum in Kosice. The celebrations of International Children's Day,
combined with the prize-giving in the 4th edition of the city round of the annual visual arts competition for physically-disabled children by the name "Landscape of Hope", were attended by more
than 130 boys and girls from special schools around Kosice.
Invitations to the celebrations were accepted by the Mayor of Kosice Zdenko Trebula, and Mary A. Connor and Kathryn A. Fedorenko, the wives of two Vice-presidents of
U. S. Steel Kosice, which supported this event as a sponsor. This year's competition received the greatest number of entries in the event's history so far - from 164 children. The
creators of the 20 most beautiful pictures went off with prizes, but also with little presents given to them in the name of U. S. Steel Kosice by Mary Connor and Kathryn Fedorenko. As a
sign of gratitude and a souvenir of the day, the children gave each of them a lovely picture.
"Golden Beggar" for Cacak Television
The tenth edition of the annual international festival of local television broadcasters "Golden Beggar Kosice 2004" culminated on Saturday, June 6th, with the
closing ceremony, awards presentations and gala program in Kosice State Theater. The tenth anniversary winner was Cacak Television from Serbia and Montenegro with their documentary film "White
Village".
The award - the Golden Beggar statuette - was presented by Jan Figel, European Commissioner for the Slovak Republic, who was the patron of the event. This year's
festival was supported by U. S. Steel Kosice, and the Company's attention was attracted most of all by the documentary "Dolphin Young" by M-P-K-E-T Television. This film won the Slovak
Local Television Association award. The steelmakers expressed their recognition of the film creaators with an enormous basket bouquet of flowers.
