Pittsburgh praises USSK
"It's always a pleasure for me to be in Kosice," said U. S. Steel Corporation President John P. Surma at a meeting with U. S. Steel Kosice
President Christopher Navetta, Vice-presidents, General Managers and other executives which took place on Thursday of last week in the auditorium of the AB building in USSK's Public Access area,
during the visit to Kosice by top managers from Pittsburgh.
Accompanying Mr.Surma were Executive Vice-president Operations John H. Goodish, Vice-president Strategic Planning and Commercial John J. Connelly, Executive
Vice-president Gretchen R. Haggerty, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Counsel Dan D. Sandman, Senior Vice.president Human Resources Thomas W. Sterling, and also Karl F.
Csensich, who was USSK Vice-president Finance until June 1st this year, and is currently the Corporation's General Manager Raw Materials Purchasing.
"We like coming here in particular," Mr.Surma explained, "because in Kosice we always get to hear positive news. I can also tell you that Thomas J. Usher sends his
greetings to all of you here in Kosice." Surma stated that the good results in Kosice reflect the excellent work of the managers and of all the Company's employees. This visit by the
U. S. Steel Corporation President and other leading representatives of the steel-making giant from the USA included a tour of primary operations at the Kosice works.
At the end of the tour, U. S. Steel Corporation President John Surma told Ocel Vychodu that he is happy with the Kosice workers' results. "A great deal has
been achieved here since our last visit," he observed.
Potential investors in Eastern Slovakia again
Sunday, June 20th in Bratislava saw the beginning of a three-day investment conference by the name of AUTOCEE SLOVAKIA 2004, organized by the Embassy of the United
States of America in Slovakia in cooperation with the company Worldwide Business Research. This was the third such investment conference focusing on development of the automobile industry in
Slovakia, and was attended by around 200 participants.
Its objective was to attract potential investors to Slovakia and present them with the advantages of investing in this country. The Conference's principal sponsor
was U. S. Steel Kosice, and the opportunities for investment in Eastern Slovakia were outlined by Company President Christopher Navetta. Yesterday (Tuesday, June 22nd) a number of the
Conference participants traveled to Kosice, and on the premises of U. S. Steel Kosice they learned more about the advantages of investment in Eastern Slovakia. Representatives of
U. S. Steel Kosice and Embraco Corporation gave the visitors an account of their personal experience of working in this region.
The visitors' program included a tour of Kechnec Industrial Park and the company premises of Gilbos Corp. and Molex Inc.
Grand 30th Kosice Rally
The two-stage international automobile competition Kosice Rally, supported again this year by U. S. Steel Kosice as principal sponsor, concluded on Sunday
afternoon with an outright victory by the crew of Tibor Cserthalmi and Martin Krajnak. At the grand announcement of the results in the Slovan Hotel that evening, not only were they both presented
with valuable trophies for taking first place in their class as well as in the overall ranking, but Tibor Cserthalmi also took permanent possession of the event's traveling cup.
He was presented with this on behalf of U. S. Steel Kosice by Vice-president Technology Michael A. Fedorenko. The whole Kosice Rally event also included a
varied cultural program, which was enjoyed by children from the Zakarovce, Velke Kapusany and Kosice's Uralska Street children's homes, who were invited by Phyllis Navetta, wife of USSK President
Christopher Navetta. Together they were able to talk with members of the competing crews and collect their autographs.
