Pittsburgh top managers see USSK strategic investment projects
On Wednesday of last week the Kosice steelworks were visited by top managers from the U. S. Steel Corporation in Pittsburgh. The Kosice visitors were John H. Goodish, Thomas W. Sterling, James D. Garraux, David H. Lohr and Anthony R. Bridge. Accompanied by U. S. Steel Kosice President Christopher J. Navetta, Vice-presidents Scott C. Pape and Michael Fedorenko and other top managers of the firm, they looked around several production plants to see with their own eyes how our Company's strategic investment construction projects are progressing.
Minister Miklos at U. S. Steel Kosice
On Thursday of last week, October 21st, U. S. Steel Kosice was visited by SR Minister for the Environment Laszlo Miklos. This government representative,
accompanied by staff of the specialized state service for environmental issues, was welcomed on Company premises on behalf of President Christopher Navetta by Vice-president Technology Michael
Fedorenko.
The idea of a joint meeting at the steelworks arose in February of this year, when U. S. Steel Kosice representatives went to the SR Environment Ministry
in Bratislava to present the projects which the Company is planning to implement in the environmental protection field in the very near future. Eight months later Minister Miklos came to find out
for himself how the steelworks is getting on in realizing its aims and objectives.
Cost-saving team leaders meet Christopher Navetta
On Friday of last week there was a working lunch at which U. S. Steel Kosice President Christopher J. Navetta and Vice-president Operations Scott C. Pape
met the leaders of the Company's cost-saving teams to assess the results achieved so far in the Cost-saving Program for the year 2004. These were found to be much more impressive than the
forecast plan.
"I'd like to thank you for these outstanding results, this contribution made by all of you, team leaders and U. S. Steel Kosice employees alike," said the
President. At the same time he presented diplomas to the leaders of the four cost-saving teams which have achieved the best results of all this year. These tokens of appreciation were given
personally to Vladimir Vasilik of the Hot Strip Mill, Tibor Kovacs of the Secondary Metallurgy Division, Robert Brozek of GM Environment's staff and Igor Petruska of the Financial Investments
Department, who have led the cost-saving teams from their establishment.
Ekotopfilm 2004 has started
Monday of this week saw the beginning in Bratislava's Forum Hotel of the 31st edition of the annual international festival of specialist films, videos and TV programs named Ekotopfilm 2004. The general sponsor of the event is our company U. S. Steel Kosice.
Metallurgical Vocational School turns forty
There were celebrations lasting throughout last week at the Secondary Vocational School for Metallurgy in Kosice-Saca to mark the occasion of the 40th anniversary of
the school's foundation. The organizers prepared a rich program for the school's pupils, staff and employees, and the invited guests.
In addition to the exhibitions presenting the students' successes in various competition events, talent demonstrations and sporting events, and meetings with former
teachers and students, on Tuesday, October 19th a discussion meeting was held. Among the guests accepting the invitation to join in this meeting was U. S. Steel Kosice Vice-president
Human Resources Miroslav Kiralvarga.
