American President in Slovakia
This week Slovakia is the focus of interest for the whole world. This is because Bratislava welcomes the Presidents of the United States of America and the Russian
Federation, whose stay here culminates in a summit meeting. The American President is coming to Slovakia for two reasons - he wants to appreciate the new Europe and at the same time to give
credit to Slovakia's efforts towards democracy.
Tomorrow George W. Bush will be speaking about democracy and freedom in Hviezdoslav Square in Bratislava, where he will be meeting citizens from all over Slovakia.
Among them there will of course be representatives of U. S. Steel Kosice as well as students and senior citizens from our city. Bush is expected to deliver an interesting message
intended for the people of Slovakia, but also for the whole world. Ocel Vychodu will be there to hear it, and we will be presenting highlights from this internationally significant event in our
next issue.

New program working with Korad radiators database
One of the accompanying events at the 11th edition of the annual international exhibition named Klimatherm 2005, focusing on heating and air-conditioning systems,
which took place at the House of Technology in Kosice on February 15th-16th, was a specialist conference on energy production and consumption from the point of view of economic efficiency and
environmental impact. The aim of the conference was to familiarize the specialist public with the latest insights from the field of planned production, distribution and consumption of energy, as
well as the current state and problems of energy legislation.
This event, for which the Civil Engineering Faculty of the Technical University Kosice took specialist responsibility, was also attended by representatives of
U. S. Steel Kosice. Conference participants were informed about panel radiator production at USSK by Deputy Manager Production and Technology at the Secondary Metallurgy Division Tibor
Kovacs. The advantages of a new program for TechCON designers were emphasized by Frantisek Vranay from the Civil Engineering Faculty of the Technical University Kosice. He made it clear that this
program, which works with the Korad radiators database, is one of the most up-to-date and most comprehensive programs of its type available on our market.
New legislation from the European Union
In the last few days a working seminar took place at U. S. Steel Kosice concerning the current situation in steelmaking companies and their preparedness
for the latest European Union requirements in the area of surface-treated steel sheets. This seminar was prepared by the staff of U. S. Steel Kosice General Manager Quality in
cooperation with the steelworks research teams in Kosice and Monroeville in the USA.
The serious nature of the issue was confirmed by the presence of representatives from the great multinational chemical companies Henkel, Chemetall, Akzo Nobel, BASF,
PPG and General Electric Infrastructure, which not only supply their products to various plants of the U. S. Steel Corporation, but are also distinguished by the global extent of their
commercial activities. There was also a meeting at U. S. Steel Kosice of the international working group named Tin Technology based in London. The session was attended in person by
representatives of such important tin-plate manufacturers as the French national company Arcelor, the Korean producer Posco, Dofasco of Canada and the International Steel Group USA.
Climax of the Winter Olympiad
On Saturday, February 19th, the skiing center at Jahodna was given over to the senior Olympiad competitors, the young memorial competition participants and the
children of U. S. Steel Kosice employees. With our Company's Vice-presidents and other top management guests in attendance, the third part of the Winter Olympiad competition at Jahodna
was officially opened by U. S. Steel Kosice President Christopher Navetta.
The fact that year on year downhill skiing is becoming increasingly popular among Company employees is borne out by the number of participants - 199 in the giant
slalom, 31 in the snowboarding and 93 in the youth category skiing races for the Jan Tichy Memorial Trophy. The close of the Olympiad was enlivened with the now traditional Children's Carnival.
