Andrew S. Armstrong is new Vice-president IT

From August 1st 2005 the new U. S. Steel Kosice Vice-president Information Technology will be Andrew S. Armstrong. Till this time the post has been held by Peter Richardson, and an interview with him is published in today's issue of Ocel Vychodu. Andrew Armstrong gained his bachelor's degree at Pennsylvania State University in 1969, and went on to complete his Master of Science degree at Slippery Rock University in 1981. From 1969 to 1973 he was an officer of the United States Marine Corps.
His first employment with USS came in 1978 at the subsidiary company Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad, where he worked as Data Control Supervisor. Between 1978 and 1986 he worked in various posts at branches of USS Transport. He was manager for real estate and industrial development at Transtar, Inc., one of the branches of USS Transport, from 1986 to 1993. In 1992 he also worked on the executive committee of the International Association of Legal Entities' Real Estate Assets. He remained at Transtar, Inc. in charge of assets management until 1995, and then became information technology manager (1995-2003). For the past year he has been working at USS Business Service Center in Pittsburgh as Director Capability Management.
Andrew Armstrong has been married to his wife Janet for 32 years, and they have two daughters Megan and Sarah aged 25 and 27. Both currently live in South Carolina.

Highest quality service

The company MultiServ is well-known worldwide as a provider of high-quality services for the steelmaking industry. It has operations in numerous countries including Australia, Canada, China, France, Holland, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Great Britain, all of which are holders of ISO quality management system certificates, and from June 2005 they have been joined by the operation MultiServ Slovensko, s.r.o., which has been functioning at the Kosice steelworks since 1993, and on the basis of long-term contracts provides U. S. Steel Kosice with services involving collection and processing of steel-plant slag, processing of steel-plant dust and sludge, surface treatment of slabs, and processing of older material from the slag-heaps.

First "season" at the InfoUSA Center in Kosice

The InfoUSA Center at the State Research Library in Kosice has completed its first season 2004/2005. After the German Reading Room the Center is the second international cultural component in the reading-room system at the State Research Library in Kosice. It was opened in the spring of last year as a joint project between the Kosice Library and the Public Affairs Section of the Embassy of the United States of America in Slovakia.
The range of activities of the InfoUSA Center in Kosice includes providing library services and access to up-to-date, trustworthy information about the United States, as well as organizing cultural and educational events for the general public. Among the Center's regular events are the Wednesday public showings of films on topics concerning the USA. The InfoUSA Center in Kosice has already prepared a number of projects in cooperation with the Embassy of the USA in Slovakia, the Fulbright Commission in Slovakia and the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosice, as well as various schools, non-governmental organizations and companies in the region of Eastern Slovakia.
Very productive cooperation has also been going on with U. S. Steel Kosice. The InfoUSA Center has also succeeded in involving some of the Americans living in Kosice in its events. The personal commitment of Mrs. Boskovich has been particularly welcome and valuable, as she has contributed with advice and assistance to the organization of several successful events.
