Cokery workers talk with President David Lohr
Eight out of nine selected employees of USSK Cokery Division met on Wednesday, August 31st, for another of the now traditional working lunches with
U. S. Steel Kosice President David H. Lohr. The Cokery workers received a little introductory surprise. Before they started talking about themselves and their work, a single question
which they were then to answer promptly, spontaneously and anonymously.
The President was interested namely in what they considered to be their highest priority in their workplace. As it turned out, half of the employees mentioned safety
as their top priority. "The safety of co-workers on the job and family members must always be first." President Lohr reminded the employees: "We must all adopt the core belief that ALL INJURIES
CAN BE PREVENTED. When we set our minds to an objective, we always find a way to succeed."
Fifth edition of Talent Night has three winners
A few minutes after half past seven in the evening on Friday, September 2nd, the signature tune sounded in the State Theater Kosice to start the finale of the 5th
edition of the annual competition for young singers, musicians and dancers, Talent Night 2005. Right away the first guest performers, the Latvian band Brainstorm, convinced everyone that the
evening would proceed in really great style. This was the band's second visit to Kosice in two years, and they treated the full auditorium to some top-quality music.
Before the first contestants took the stage, there were some opening words from U. S. Steel Kosice President David H. Lohr. He said he and his wife were
attending the event for the first time, but that he had already heard a great deal about it and he was looking forward to the show. He pointed out that the contest had so far attracted more than
1500 talented young people from the Kosice and Presov regions, resolved to match their talents with those of the competition. He appreciated the efforts of the finalists, especially the fact that
they had composed their own songs or prepared their choreographies themselves. It is precisely this aspect which makes this competition different from other, apparently similar ones - that
original composition is a crucial condition for participation.
The winner of the solo singing category was Jozef Hruskoci, in the musical bands it was Arrived Message, and in dance it was Patricia Prnova and Marian Sivak. The
Audience's Award went to the Hviezdicka dance ensemble. At the same time on Friday the Main Street in Kosice was the venue for a presentation show of the best performers from the audition rounds
for the Talent Night 2005 competition. The singing, dancing and great atmosphere which got better with every performance of the finalists and later also of well-known personalities and bands from
the popular music scene, attracted a crowd of people to the stage by the Immaculata mmonument - whole families with children.
At 6.30 pm the audience was filled with suspense. The tombola draw was impatiently awaited by all those who had filled in coupons, whether handed out that afternoon
on the Main Street or cut out of Ocel Vychodu, and put them in the drum.
