On Wednesday and Thursday of last week, May 10th-11th 2006, the members and guests of the Supervisory Board of Hutnictvo zeleza, a.s. (steelmakers' society) met in Kosice, combining their Board meeting with opportunities to look round some of U. S. On Thursday they enjoyed a guided tour of selected Company operations, and completed their visit with their official Supervisory Board meeting at the Economic Development Center in Kosice. According to USSK Executive Vice-president Strategic Implementation and HZ, a.s. Supervisory Board member Anton Jura, who was also the host of this meeting, cooperation is of pragmatic significance. There is similar cooperation among steel producers elsewhere in the world as well. In practically all countries with developed steel industries, multinational steel-making associations are active. Hutnictvo zeleza, as a member of IISI, Eurofer and the pipe manufacturers' association ESTA, provides its members primarily with statistical information about their competitors on the steel market.

The significance of this conference is indicated among other things by the fact that it was held under the personal auspices of Pavol Prokopovic, Minister of Transport, Posts and Telecommunications of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Sinay, Rector of the Technical University in Kosice, Róbert Simoncic, Director of the European Council for American Chambers of Commerce, Jozef Uhrik of the Automobile Industry Association of the Slovak Republic, and Juraj Sabaka, Director of the IT Association of the Slovak Republic.
