We know the 3rd-quarter Global Value Plus Awards winners

In July of this year the staff of the BSC organization were introduced globally to the new program of employees' appraisal and reward known as the Global Value Plus Awards. Its main aim is to reward our BSC employees whose work for USS contributes significantly to the Corporation's global success. The first phase of this program has just ended.
BSC management consisting of Vice-president BSC, four BSC General Managers from North America, Vice-president BSC Europe and three BSC GM's in Europe, has selected the winners for the third quarter of 2006. Out of the many candidates, BSC North America manager Jamie Stewart was picked for his outstanding working contributions as the overall 3rd-quarter winner. BSC management has also picked other winners of Global Value Plus Awards for the latest quarter, who are managers Peter Mesaros at USSK and Gordana Truskić in Serbia.

Graduation for more University of Pittsburgh Masters students

Saturday, October 7th, 2006 saw the official graduation ceremony for two of our colleagues who have successfully completed their Master of Business Administration degree courses at the University of Pittsburgh in Prague. They are U. S. Steel Kosice - Bohemia a.s. Sales Office Director Peter Uhrik and U. S. Steel Kosice - Labortest Managing Director Ladislav Rozek. The official ceremony was also attended by USSK Vice-president Labor Relations and Compensation Martin Pitorak.

We prepare for EMS renewal audit

Next week, October 23rd - 26th, 2006 U. S. Steel Kosice will be undergoing a renewal audit of its environmental management system (EMS) in line with the requirements of international standard EN ISO 14000: 2004. As Ocel Vychodu was informed by EMS Section Manager Tibor Hanesz, auditors from the inspection company RWTÜV Bratislava s.r.o. will be judging how successful we are in maintaining and developing our EMS and in meeting the requirements of the standard in the conditions of U. S. Steel Kosice.

U. S. Steel Kosice company day at Empiria

At the end of September U. S. Steel Kosice got together for the first time with the firm Empiria in Piestany, which the steel company has been working with for a long time in the field of panel radiator sales, to hold a company day. Empiria sells heating and sanitary equipment and provides transport services, which ranks it among the biggest companies on the Slovakian market. Its head offices are in Piestany, and it has branches in Bratislava and Kosice. At the present time, also thanks to its long-term successful cooperation with USSK, it has started building a new, larger branch in Kosice with an expected opening date in 2007.

Serbian managers visit Obal-Servis

Last week, from October 9th - 11th, U. S. Steel Kosice and its subsidiary Obal-Servis a.s. were visited by a group of managers from U. S. Steel Serbia. The aim of this working visit was to involve our colleagues from the Serbian operations in the standardization and improvement of processes in the field of product packaging.

Steelworks volunteers at the Zoo

Last Saturday, October 14th, a group of volunteers from the ranks of USSK employees met at Kosice Zoo in Kavecany to help with improving the surroundings and renovating the old boundary fencing. At the outset this was an encounter of quite unacquainted people, but they went home knowing each other well. And they left a good bit of work behind them - several dozen meters of freshly-painted hand-railings.
