USSK President and Slovak Prime Minister meet at skittles

On Sunday, May 20th, the Steel Arena in Kosice saw the grand opening of the 2nd World Skittles Team Championships 2007 for men and women. This adult event follows on from the Under-21s Championships in which Slovakia gained one silver medal. U. S. Steel Kosice is the principal sponsor of these World Skittles Championships. During the opening ceremony U. S. Steel Kosice President David H. Lohr met and spoke with the Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and Chairman of Parliament Pavol Paska. The official opening was also attended by ministers of the Slovak Government, members of the National Council, the representative of the Office of the President of the Slovak Republic in Kosice, state secretaries from the ministries and representatives of local and regional authorities and government.

Join in Volunteer Days at USSK

The aim of U. S. Steel Kosice Volunteer Days, which take place on June 8th and 9th this year, in just over two weeks from now, is to enable USSK employees, of the parent company and subsidiaries alike, to join in some public benefit work and apply their own time and effort to helping where it is most needed, so that together with the Company they can take active part in some philanthropical activities to support our region. While Friday, June 8th, is reserved for the Steelmakers Drop of Blood event, Saturday, June 9th, from 9 am to 2 pm, is intended for active assistance for specific institutions. If you fill in the application form on page 4 of today's issue of Ocel Vychodu and send it to the Editor's Office, your name will be entered for a prize draw with the chance to win domestic appliances.

ICD celebrations at the Zoo in ten days' times

Set aside the first Saturday in June for a visit to Kosice Zoo, where the celebrations will be taking place for International Children's Day, organized by U. S. Steel Kosice. The Dance Party begins right away at 2 pm. The program is going to be colorful, with plenty of refreshments awaiting you, and there's free entry for all children. Adults can save on admissions too, if they buy tickets in advance, for example at Ferrotour Travel Agency in the Public Access Area, for a symbolic price in return for which they will receive a reflective armband as a gift. This can be used later on as a safety aid when cycling or skating.

No weak points found by auditors

The Chief Auditor for the second review audit of the quality management system in line with ISO 9001 and the first review audit in accordance with automobile technical specification ISO/TS 16949, Pavel Hornik from certification company TÜV NORD, informed U. S. Steel Kosice management of the results of last week's inspection at their final meeting in the lecture hall last Thursday, May 17th. The decision of the four-member auditing team was heard by Company President David H. Lohr, Vice-presidents, General Managers, and the Directors of Divisions and Sections in which the auditors inspected the QMS processes. The auditors did not find any system deviations which could be termed as weak points in the quality management system, and so they will be recommending that TÜV NORD head office prolong the validity of the Company's certificates for a further period.

Pupil projects Eko and Safety get green light

The Children's Fun Sports Center was the venue recently for the announcement of results in two ecology competitions, "Where And How Are We Going To Live" and "What We Never Knew Till Now", as well as the grant program called "More Safely In Schools". USSK has sponsored both ecology projects, which were entered by 15 elementary and 22 secondary schools from Eastern Slovakia, and the grant too, the target of 70 project creators. Altogether the schools were after a sum of more than 1.261 million SKK. Symbolic checks were presented to the winners by USSK Vice-president Management Services and Administration Miroslav Kiralvarga, Vice-president Operations Richard Veitch and GM Environmental Tibor Duchonovic.
