US Ambassador Vincent Obsitnik to end mission in SR
After more than a year's work in Slovakia, the Ambassador of the United States Vincent Obsitnik is returning to America. This representative of the outgoing American
President George W. Bush has Slovak roots. He was born in the village of Moravany, and his father grew up in Adidovce near Humenne. The Ambassador speaks Slovak and has a close, heartfelt
relationship to this country. He communicated this to journalists at their meeting in Kosice last week to mark the approaching end of his mission in Slovakia. He said he had had many great
experiences in this country and was taking very pleasant memories home with him.
The greatest moment for him was when the visa requirement was lifted for Slovaks traveling to the USA, but there was also the occasion of his accompanying SR
President Ivan Gasparovic on his trip to Washington, placing wreaths at the Slovak National Uprising memorial in Banska Bystrica, and his active participation in the Kosice Peace Marathon. In
assessing Slovak-American relations since the Slovak Republic gained independence, he also mentioned the assistance from the USA in the economic sphere. He pointed out that American companies had
invested four billion dollars in Slovakia and created fifty thousand job opportunities.
For the Pipes Plant in the Radiators and Pipes Division, last year was the most successful in its history to date
For the Pipes Plant in the Radiators and Pipes Division, last year was the most successful in its history to date. The pipe-makers produced the best part of a hundred thousand tons of spiral-welded pipes, which is almost double the production of 2003. Sales of this segment started growing dynamically back in 2006, and in mid-2007 the plant started operating on four working shifts daily, which enabled the production line to be utilized at almost 100 percent capacity. Last year's sales plan was exceeded mainly thanks to Poland, where our commercial staff sold a lot more pipes than expected for gas pipelines, heating and cooling systems, and for construction purposes.
