Two awards for U. S. Steel Kosice

Last Thursday, April 2nd, saw the presentation in Bratislava of the Via Bona Slovakia awards for responsible enterprise and corporate philanthropy in 2008. Of the ten awards available, our Company took two at once, namely the Award for Responsible Approach to Employees and the Award for Involving Employees in Voluntary Events.
There was strong competition among the 82 nominations, but the Pontis Foundation, presenting these awards for the ninth time now, and the 20-member jury of experts decided to reward U. S. Steel Kosice's long-term efforts towards finding ways of increasing Roma employment, and its constant interest in supporting the community through various kinds of voluntary activities. Accepting the awards, USSK Vice President Human Resources Martin Pitorak said: "Thanks are due primarily to our employees, who never hesitate to help and come up with new ideas for improving the way the Company works and the quality of life in our region."

Traci Lynn Vaughan becomes Vice President BSC-Europe

Following the return to the USA of Vice President BSC-Europe Andrew S. Armstrong, his successor from April 1st is Traci Lynn Vaughan, who was formerly General Manager Capability Management. As of the same date several other organizational and staff changes have taken place at Business Service Center - Europe (BSCe). Jan Venglarcik has been appointed General Manager Capability Management, Marian Tóth has taken over the position of GM Infrastructure Management, and Lubomir Kvaska has become GM Application Management.

President's meetings with employees on current issues

At the meetings of U. S. Steel Kosice President and top managers with the Company employees taking place from April 27th - 30th, the talking-points will be mainly the firm's activities regarding occuptional safety and health protection, but also how employees themselves can help to improve their own and their colleagues' safety. There will of course be information about the current situation on the steel market and the impact of the financial crisis on the Company's business. A further theme of the meetings will be cost-saving measures, which could help to minimize the effects of the crisis for the employees.
