City of Kosice Award to marathoner Imrich Pastor
This year's Kosice Day celebrations culminated last Thursday, May 7th, with the official ceremony for the presentation of the City of Kosice Award and the City of
Kosice Mayor's Award to individuals and groups of people who have contributed significantly to spreading the good name and reputation of the city. This awards presentation ceremony is associated
with the date of granting of the first armorial warrant to the city by King Louis the Great in the year 1369, and May 7th this year saw the passing of 640 years since that historic event.
This year too the name of another member of the family of steelmakers was entered in the city chronicle. The City Council deputies voted to present the City of
Kosice Award to Imrich Pastor, an employee of USSK's Power Engineering Division, for the successes he has achieved as an amateur sportsman, in particular as a long-distance runner. This
34-year-old endurance man has become marathon champion of Slovakia two years in a row with his performances in the Kosice Peace Marathon in 2007 and 2008. He set his own personal record on this
course in 2007 with a time of 2h21m59s.
Metalurgia 2009
In the last few days the Faculty of Metallurgy at the Technical University in Kosice organized another edition of the annual students' scientific research conference named Metalurgia 2009, the aim of which is to improve the preparation of future steelmakers for independent specialist activity. This event takes the form of a competition, and this year saw presentations of work by a total of fifty students from the local Faculty and from the partner technical college in Ostrava, Czech Republic. In the opinion of the members of the jury, including representatives from U. S. Steel Kosice, the results of the creativity of the Metallurgical Faculty students were in many cases quite original.
