Road Transport fleet upgraded with MAN utility trucks
On Tuesday of last week, March 8th, the works yard of the Transportation Division's Road Transport operation witnessed a modest ceremony. U. S. Steel Kosice President David J. Rintoul symbolically presented the drivers with the keys to four new TGS-series MAN utility trucks. Three MAN TGS 41.480-8x8 tipper trucks and one MAN TGS 33.540-6x4 tractor unit were recently delivered to the Company. All of these vehicles, together with the 29-ton trailer which the operation has had at its disposal since December of last year, are to serve primarily for taking detritus and slag from the Steel Plants Division to the dry dump, and for carrying outsize and heavy loads. After the necessary training of the drivers, the new vehicles were brought directly into operation.
Steelmakers declare commitment to work safely
Yesterday, March 15th, new billboards placed around the steelworks area started featuring the first signatures of employees of U. S. Steel Kosice and its subsidiary companies who in this way are publicly presenting their personal commitment to work safely. This initiative has been introduced by Company management with support from the trade union organizations. All those who join in the initiative during the coming days in various parts of the steelworks will become standard bearers for ideas in the field of improving occupational safety.
Another sporting success for our fire-fighter
The recent international Slovakian Championships for police officers, fire-fighters and rescue workers in indoor rowing on Concept 2 rowing machines in Banska Bystrica brought success for USSK fire-fighter Adrian Ficik. The mixed team he was a member of beat ten other teams to win the 4 x 2 x 500 meters relay in a time of 12m06.4s.

The opportunity to submit applications in the grant program named Together For The Region run jointly by U. S. Steel Kosice and the Carpathian Foundation, giving interested parties the chance to gain financial support for their public-benefit projects focusing on selected areas of community life, is open just until Friday of next week, March 25th. The projects might promote for example leisure-time activities for children and young people, environmental education, safety, sport, preservation of cultural values, or support for cooperation between various cultures.
