APEAL members visit U. S. Steel Kosice
On May 23 and 24 U. S. Steel Kosice was visited by members of the Association of European Producers of Steel for Packaging (APEAL), representing four major packaging steel producers - Arcelor Mittal, Tata Steel, ThyssenKrupp-Rasselstein and U. S. Steel Europe. The group led by APEAL President Hugo Loudon looked round USSK's production operations, and the guests also met Vice President Commercial Robert J. Beltz. U. S. Steel Kosice has been a member of APEAL since 2004.
Ocel Vychodu is Corporate Medium of the Year
U. S. Steel Kosice's newspaper Ocel Vychodu has again been successful in nationwide competition, becoming the best company newspaper in Slovakia for the third year running. In the eighth edition of the annual Corporate Medium of the Year competition, which enables the publishers of corporate media to test the quality standard of their internal and external communications, the jury made up of specialists from the fields of journalism, public relations and advertizing awarded Ocel Vychodu first place in the Company Newspaper category. The criteria which they took into account in their assessments included above all the content focus, the standard of language and the graphics aspect. This competion is organized by the Corporate Newspapers Club and the Blue Mark Agency, and this year it attracted 120 entries. At the event for the official announcement of results, which took place on May 19th in the Polana Hotel at Brusno Spa, awards were presented to the winners of a further eight categories in addition to the representatives of the Kosice steelworks' fortnightly paper. Ocel Vychodu is entitled to use the title of Corporate Medium of the Year until May 18, 2012.
USSK's Equal Opportunities project in the international arena
On May 23 to 25 the General Directorate for Regional Policy of the European Commission organized a summit meeting in Slovakia. The aim of this three-day event, taking place in Kosice and Bratislava, is to intensify usage of the European Union funds intended for improving social inclusion for marginalized Roma communities in Slovakia, as well as mutual exchange of experience about activities which have proved successful in this field. The U. S. Steel Kosice project named Equal Opportunities involves such activities, which the summit participants were informed about during yesterday evening, May 24, also during a visit to the steelworks. This event continues in our city with a regional conference today.
U. S. Steel Kosice awarded with the Gypsy Spirit prize
Project of company U. S. Steel Kosice called - Equal Opportunities - Work and Education for Romany Citizens, having been implemented in cooperation with the village Velka Ida, municipality Kosice-Saca and the city Kosice since year 2002, was awarded with the prize Gypsy Spirit 2011 in the category "company". The decision was made by the international jury consisting of 5 members and led by Chairman Mr. Michael Kocab from the Czech Republic, an activist in area of human rights protection and current Deputy Chairman of the Czech Helsinki Board. On Monday, May 23, 2011, the winners of the 3rd Annual Prize Awards were announced in the City Theater P. O. Hviezdoslav in Bratislava in the category "Non-governmental Organizations", Non-School Educational Activities, Individual Prize, The Act of the Year and a special prize award - The Gypsy Spirit media. The Gypsy Spirit prize award is aimed to support the active efforts made by all those contributing to improvement of the Romany citizens' situation in Slovakia. The project is dedicated to creation of a public platform for presentation of positive actual contributions, presentation of the activities of the organizations and individuals to the wide public and to support information share on these projects and activities bringing actual and measurable results and referring to a true help to the marginal citizen groups. The project is also aimed to motivate the others to join the meaningful projects through a positive example.
