Quality Management System audit
From May 14 - 17 a four-day external audit of the quality management system is to be carried out at U. S. Steel Kosice. This is a recertification audit in line with the ISO/TS 16949 and EN ISO 9001 standards, and it will be focused on checking the efficiency and effectiveness of the QMS which is implemented throughout the Company. One of the principal aims will be to verify our performance as supplier to the automotive industry and our responsivity to specific customer requirements. The external auditors carrying out this audit are from the company TÜV SÜD Slovakia, s.r.o.
Kosice man in the World Steel Association
For more than a year now, Ladislav Horvath from the Department of GM Research and Development USSE has been working at the World Steel Association in Beijing, China,
where he is engaged as a member of an international team of experts on a project for reducing energy consumption in the steel industry. The work on this project currently involves 31 steelmaking
corporations, organizations and associations from all over the world, whose combined production in 2010 amounted to approximately 374 million tons of steel, which represents just over 26 per cent
of total steel production in the world.
The main aim of the project, responsibility for which as far as the U. S. Steel Corporation is concerned is taken by U. S. Steel Kosice Director
Environmental Affairs Peter Mosny, is to analyze the possibilities of reducing energy consumption in steel production in the combined metallurgical cycle.
City comes alive with celebrations
The thirteenth annual celebrations of Kosice City Days, which are linked with a specific historical event, namely the granting of an armorial warrant to the city by
King Ludovicus Magnus on May 7, 1369, have brought pleasure in recent days to residents and visitors in the city with a great many attractive events and activities. Several of these were attended
in the company of Kosice City Mayor Richard Rasi on Saturday, May 5, by U. S. Steel Kosice President David J. Rintoul and his wife Mary.
This Monday, May 7, the President of the Company was also present at the official ceremony for presentation of public awards by the Mayor of the City, and on
Tuesday, May 8, he joined in the Kosice Tree Adoption project, focusing on the enhancement of the city through increased greenery.
U. S. Steel for Kosice is next week
Only a few days remain till the start of the sixth edition of the annual U. S. Steel Kosice Volunteer Days, which are taking place on Friday and Saturday of next week, May 18 and 19, 2012. Steelmakers will be helping out a total of eleven public-benefit organizations. The available places are practically all filled to capacity - but a few more skilled and willing steelmakers' hands will be welcomed by the Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired in Slovakia.
