Steel Park-Creative Factory ECC project presentation
Yesterday, June 19, there was a meeting attended by SR Minister for Culture Marek Maďaric, Kosice City Mayor Richard Rasi, Kosice Self-governing Region Chairman
Zdenko Trebula, and other personalities naturally including U. S. Steel Kosice President David J. Rintoul, at which the official presentation took place of the capital investment
projects and the events program associated with Kosice's role as the European Capital of Culture 2013.
Three floors of one of the main buildings in the Barracks/Culturpark area are to be transformed into the Steel Park-Creative Factory, which U. S. Steel
Kosice is cooperating on setting up together with three education and research institutions - P. J. Safarik University in Kosice, the Slovak Academy of Sciences, and the Technical University of
Kosice. At the briefing, Company President David J. Rintoul briefly presented the project. "The impetus for carrying this out," he said, "was the desire to popularize scientific disciplines and
the world of technology among children and young people, using an attractive, unusual and creative approach." Among other things, he expressed the conviction that this exhibition, which will be
coming to life next year, will be an attractive and popular place, not only for people in Kosice, but also in the whole of Eastern Slovakia and the neighboring regions. Forty children appeared
wearing hard-hats and red coats, symbolizing the target group which this project is primarily focused on. The news of the Steel Park-Creative Factory was carried forth to the rest of the people
in Kosice after ten o'clock in the morning by a truck driving round the city streets.
The contract between the City of Kosice and the company Doprastav for the building of the biggest investment project in Kosice as the European Capital of Culture
2013 - the Barracks/Culturpark - was signed shortly before the press conference by Kosice City Mayor Richard Rasi and the CEO of the construction company Juraj Androvic. The official presentation
of the program part of the ECC project which followed at the Social Pavilion was attended by more than 500 guests, partners and representatives of the public involved. Taking part together with
David J. Rintoul were Vice Presidents, Martin Pitorak and Elena Petraskova, and the whole Steel Park-Creative Factory project team. Individual project managers presented the most attractive
moments in the artistic program covering the years 2012 and 2013. This has been conceived in a multi-genre mode. offering 25 key events, with almost 70 significant events and accompanying
activities. The Steel Park-Creative Factory infokiosk actually presented one of the prepared exhibits, a robotic cube.
USSK president meets this year's volunteers
The finishing touch to this year's 6th edition of the annual U. S. Steel Kosice Volunteer Days, which took place in May, was the now traditional meeting of
the Company President, top management members and trade union officials with representatives of the individual activities. Last Friday, June 15, though, they did not meet around the table only as
hosts and guests, because all of them were active participants in the event, which is growing in popularity among the steelmakers.
"Our company is a very important part of the community which surrounds us, and the Volunteer Days are an opportunity for us to support it and pay back part of the
obligation we have towards it. I want to thank all of you for what you have been willing and able to do for the community," said USSK President David J. Rintoul, acknowledging the attitude of the
people who offered their energy and skills to help others without claiming any reward.
European Refractory Material Producers meet in Kosice
Between June 6 - 8 Kosice was the venue for the annual congress of members of the European Refractories Producers´ Federation - PRE. The sessions of the Federation's Executive Committee and Economic Council, as well as the General Meeting, at which U. S. Steel Kosice Vice President Operations Mark G. Tabler gave a presentation of our company, were attended by more than 50 representatives of the manufacturers of refractory materials for steelmaking, glassworks and the construction industry in 13 countries.
