Mario Longhi and George Babcoke visit Kosice steelmakers

Between July 10 and 12, U. S. Steel Kosice was the first operation of the United States Steel Corporation to be visited by the new Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer Mario Longhi, less than two weeks after taking over his position. The new member of the Corporation's top management was accompanied by Senior Vice President - Europe & Global Operations Services George F. Babcoke. The guests took part in discussions with USSK President David J. Rintoul and members of Company management, who presented the current conditions for business and meeting the firm's objectives, and then they went on a guided tour of selected production plants.

Maintenance employees also achieve a million hours without injury

The latest group of colleagues who have succeeded in achieving this remarkable result in the area of occupational safety are the employees in the Maintenance Division. At the beginning of July they passed the significant milestone of a million employee-hours worked without injury, having registered the last one back on February 27 last year. The maintenance workers' success was acknowledged by U. S. Steel Kosice President David J. Rintoul at the traditional meeting with selected representatives of the Division which took place last Friday, July 13. Above all he emphasized the fact that the Maintenance team has been successful in the area which is most important for U. S. Steel.

New quality certificates

On the basis of the successful external recertification audit in May of this year, our Company has gained new quality certificates in line with the standard EN ISO 9001 as well as ISO/TS 16949 for the automotive industry. These certificates were delivered to us in the last few days and are valid for three years, and were issued for the first time by the TÜV SÜD Slovakia certification company, a member of the TÜV SÜD group, world leader in providing inspection and certification services with a tradition going back many years. The change in certification company has no effect on the fact that in a year's time we meet again for the first inspection audit for repeated verification of the efficacy of the quality management system implemented at U. S. Steel Kosice.

Summer Olympic Games to be started off by golfers

Information on this year's U. S. Steel Kosice Summer Olympic Games (September 13 - 15), together with entry forms, will be published on the intranet symbolically on the same day the 30th Summer Olympic Games start in London, which is Friday, July 27, 2012. It is already known that the competitions are to be started off first of all, in advance on September 9, by the golfers.
The soccer players have already completed their tournament for the USSK President's Cup, competing for the champions' title in May of this year, when the Power Engineering team won the valued trophy. As is traditional, great interest is expected in the ten-pin bowling, and there will be competitions in five-a-side soccer, squash, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, football-tennis and softball, and the in-line skaters and chess players will also come into their own. Entry forms should be sent exclusively to the leaders of the individual sports, and for the five-a-side soccer to members of the organizing committee in the divisional plants and subsidiary companies, or to the e-mail address jmargita@sk.uss.com
