Start of this year's meetings with long-serving employees
This year precisely 137 employees of the Cokery, Blast Furnaces and Steel Plants divisions of USSK and subsidiaries OBAL-SERVIS, a.s. Kosice, RMS, a.s., Refrako,
s.r.o., U. S. Steel Labortest, U. S. Steel SBS and U. S. Steel Services are celebrating round-figure periods of long service - 30, 35 and 40 years of work at the
Kosice operation of U. S. Steel Corporation.
Last Friday, October 5, there was a gala evening at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel for some of these employees and their spouses, starting off this year's series of
four meetings of Company management with long-serving personnel. They spent the evening together with U. S. Steel Kosice President David J. Rintoul and his wife Mary, Vice President
Management Services and Administration Elena Petraskova and her husband, Vice President Human Resources Martin Pitorak and his wife, General Manager Primary Operations Marcel Novosad and is wife,
as well as the Directors of the divisions and the subsidiaries.
Invitations were also accepted by KOVO U. S. Steel Kosice Trade Union Council Chairman Mikulas Hintos and the chairmen of five KOVO trade union chapters at
USSK.
Guests from Arcelor Mittal Katowice
Invited by U. S. Steel Kosice President David J. Rintoul and General Manager Occupational Safety and Health and REACH David M. Killeen, on October 4 and 5 a group of steelmakers from Arcelor Mittal's Katowice works in Poland visited our Company. The seven-member team, made up of representatives from the departments of occupational safety and health protection, corporate security, human resources, crisis management and fire-fighting, was led by occupational safety and health protection director at the Katowice work, Teresa Godoj. The guests' interest was focused on issues of safety and health protection at work, and employees' education in this field.
TUKE celebrates 60th anniversary of its founding
The grand gala evening Ad Honorem (In Honor) on September 27 this year was the culmination in the State Theater Kosice of the celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Technical University of Kosice. They were attended by National Council of the Slovak Republic Chairman Pavol Paska, SR Minister for Education, Science, Research and Sport Dusan Caplovic, Kosice Self-governing Region CEO Zdenko Trebula, Kosice City Mayor Richard Rasi, President of the Slovak University Rectors' Conference Libor Vozar, as well as foreign guests, ambassadors, industry representatives and university partners, including representatives of U. S. Steel Kosice top management led by President David J. Rintoul.
Ex-patriots at the start of the 89th KPM
The starting line-up for the 89th edition of the international Kosice Peace Marathon by now traditionally included several relay teams made up of U. S. Steel Kosice employees. Ex-patriots were also represented here in the STEELERS 4 team, namely by Vice President BSC Administration and Director BSC Corporate Processes and Integration John P. Coyne, and Mathew Tabler, son of Vice President Operations Mark Tabler. The STEELERS 4 relay team finished in a time of 3h57m54s, enough for them to take 43rd place overall. With its new composition the team achieved an improvement of nearly 47 minutes compared with last year. Another American taking to the marathon relay course was Director Tax Planning John Bertocchi. With the Quattro Amici team he took 98th place with a time of 4h20m28s.
