Third gala evening for long-serving employees
Last Friday, November 16, the third of four gala evenings this year was held for long-serving employees of U. S. Steel Kosice. The celebration in the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel was attended by more than 160 employees from the Transportation, Power Engineering, Mechanics and Maintenance divisions who have worked for thirty, thirty-five or forty years at the Kosice steelworks. The contribution of these steelmakers to the company's development was emphasized in speeches by USSK President David J. Rintoul and KOVO USSK Labor Union Council Deputy Chairman Juraj Varga. The employees were presented with letters of thanks and commemorative plaques, and those who have worked forty years for the company each received a wristwatch.
Steelmakers at conference on production and uses of tin-plated sheet
At the beginning of November, Barcelona in Spain was the venue for the 10th edition of the annual international conference focusing on issues associated with tin-plated sheet. This meet was attended by representatives of companies involved in the production, research and development, and sales of tin-plated packaging sheet, as well as significant world producers of metal containers, and it was organized by the International Tin Research Institute (ITRI) based in Great Britain. Our company U. S. Steel Kosice was also represented in the Catalonian capital, namely by Tin-plate Products Sales Director Igor Danko and tin-plate researcher and developer Roman Gburik from USSE R&D Department. At the conference the latter presented some possibilities for the further development of electrolytic tin-plating.
Together for the Region grant program continues
U. S. Steel Kosice and the Carpathian Foundation have jointly opened the 6th edition now of the annual grant program entitled Together for the Region. This means that non-profit organizations and local councils in the Kosice and Presov regions now have two months (until January 18, 2013 to be precise) in which to apply for a grant. This program offers the possibility of obtaining a grant for public-benefit activities that improve life in local communities and which involve local residents in their implementation. In 2013 the program will be supporting interesting and innovative projects which focus thematically on safety, children's and young people's free-time activities, environmental education, sport, preservation of cultural values and cross-border cooperation. Particularly welcome are projects with volunteer involvement of employees of USSK and its subsidiary companies.
Wishing Tree project approaches its finale
The little cards bearing children's wishes are gradually disappearing from the Wishing Trees. If you have just decided to support this project, you will still find cards on one single tree, which stands in the lobby of the main administrative building in the U. S. Steel Kosice Public Access Area. Gifts should be handed in by November 26 at the latest (Mon - Fri, 5.30 am to 3.30 pm) at room no. 202 in the Public Affairs building, also in the USSK Public Access Area. More information can be obtained on 0917 704 467 or 3 4915. Thank you.
