Wishing Tree charity concert
For the eighth time now the State Theater in Kosice has been the venue for U. S. Steel Kosice's grand Christmas charity event called the Wishing Tree
concert, which is the culmination of the Company's year-round charity activity. The concert, for which Kathleen Babcoke accepted the patronage, took place on Friday, December 6, and was attended
by many representatives of social and cultural life in the city, naturally including Kosice City Mayor Richard Rasi, but also the Ambassador of the USA in Slovakia Theodore Sedgwick.
During this event, U. S. Steel Kosice President George F. Babcoke presented a symbolic check worth 109 819 euros in support of the Children's Faculty
Hospital in Kosice. The initial amount was raised by the Company's employees, then matched by the Company itself and by the U. S. Steel Kosice Foundation, producing the final sum, which
will be used by the Hospital to purchase the most up-to-date infusion technology for the youngest oncology patients. Next, in line with the wishes of the wife of the previous President of
U. S. Steel Kosice, a check for 9 182 euros went to the foster home at Podolinec, being the proceeds from sales of the Slovak-American cookbook initiated by Mary Rintoul herself. Gifts
and financial support from the USSK Foundation were also received by ten steelmakers' families who have to face a hard lot in life.

Hot Rolling Mill ships with new coil tilters
In the past month the employees in the hot coil stores of the Shipping Division's Hot Rolling Mill Shipping operation have gained two useful "helpers". These are machines for tilting hot coils weighing up to 20 tons. The new coil tilters perform two functions: in the first place they improve safety, while at the same time facilitating work. They have advanced control systems, and increase the efficiency of use by means of remote control units, which are tablets located in crane drivers' cabins.
USSK Charity Hut open for five more days
Just five more days, until December 22, the U. S. Steel Kosice Charity Hut will be open as part of the city's Christmas Market on the Main Street. This is the eighth time that the Company has given non-profit organizations with various focuses the opportunity to present their activities to the public. This year 18 organizations have been taking turns in the Hut since December 5, including clubs, associations, art schools and health-care institutions. Helping running the Hut in addition to members of the Public Affairs Director's staff are students benefiting from the Company's scholarship program as well as volunteers from the ranks of U. S. Steel Kosice employees.
