Tracey Staley visits Kosice steelmakers
Last week we welcomed Tracey Staley, Acting Head of Global Human Resources at Pittsburgh HQ, who came to see the Kosice steelmakers for the first time. During her five-day stay, from November 3 to 7, she visited USSK's partner schools, enjoyed a plant tour, and had discussions with her colleagues in the HR Section about global strategy in human resources in connection with the Carnegie Way transformation process.
Kosice-Invest 2014
On November 6 in cooperation with Forbes magazine the American Chamber of Commerce in Slovakia (AmCham) the sixth edition in Kosice of the annual international investment conference named Kosice-Invest 2014. The principal topics at this event, which was officially opened jointly by Forbes Slovakia publishing house director Juraj Porubsky, AmCham CEO Jake Sleger and AmCham First Vice President George F. Babcoke, were Slovakian export policy, exporting services and products with high added value, the principal export sectors in Slovakia, and Kosice as the entrance gate to eastern Europe.
Steel Park becomes part of cultural life in the whole region
A whole year has now passed since the official opening as part of the Barracks/CulturePark in Kosice of the technical entertainment center known as the Steel Park,
or Creative Factory. This demonstrates the story of steel by means of over fifty exhibits the final form of which required more than two years of work by a determined team of enthusiasts from
U. S. Steel Kosice, the Technical University of Kosice, Pavol Jozef Safarik University in Kosice and the Slovak Academy of Sciences, and during this year it has succeeded in gaining
thousands of supporters and regular visitors.
Between October 31, 2013 and September 30, 2014 more than 31 500 guest passeds through the doors of the Creative Factory, seeking both fun and learning. The Steel
park is visited by elementary school pupils and secondary school students, and even by pre-school age children. They do not come only from Kosice either, but from many other places around Eastern
Slovakia.
Second Gala Evening for Primary Operations employees
One thousand five hundred years. This was the exact amount of time worked altogether during their careers at the Kosice steelworks by this year's group of long-serving employees from Primary Operations, i.e. the Cokery, Blast Furnaces and Steel Shops divisions. They in particular were the invitees at the second in the series of gala evenings held in the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel on November 7 this year. As well as the celebrators and their close relatives, the evening was also attended by U. S. Steel Kosice President George F. Babcoke, Vice Presidents, Division Directors and Labor Union foremen led by Mikulas Hintos.
Women's Network members visit steelworks operations
On Wednesday, October 29, the U. S. Steel Kosice Women's Network prepared a tour of selected steelworks divisions for its colleague members working in administrative departments. Thanks to this tour the women gained a more comprehensive picture of how the company functions, and they can use the insights gained as inspiration for their own work, or possibly for coming up with new ideas within the Carnegie Way transformation process.
