After consultation with the Regional Hygiene Officer, Košice City Hall has reached a final decision to completely cancel the public celebrations for the arrival of the New Year. Information about this decision was then posted on social networks.
The Children’s New Year’s Eve party in the Historical Town Hall was canceled previously, but the new decision means there will be no public fireworks show either, which was intended as a more modest substitute for the traditional high-level fireworks display, and was supposed to be a more ecological way of seeing in the New Year.
In line with the initiative from the Union of Slovakian Towns following which various municipalities have dedicated the money saved to animal shelters, Košice City Hall has set aside more funds than ever before in support for the civic associations dealing with stray animals.
The city budget for the year 2021 set aside a total of 185 000 EUR for this purpose, 65 000 of which was divided among the four largest civic associations: UVP Shelter Košice, Heart for Cats, Little Farm – Košice and Street Dogs CA.
