The year 2030 will be a milestone by which the steel industry will have started introducing breakthrough technologies across the board. No other option appears to exist for European steelmaking, say U. S. Steel Košice's Juraj Sabol and Michal Pintér in an interview.

Michal Pintér is USSK Director SR and EU Governmental Relations and REACH. He has been involved in communicating with the SR Government, market regulators and EU authorities for many years, mainly in the fields of energy and environmental policy, trade relations and the circular economy. He chairs the National Union of Employers committee for European and foreign affairs, he is Vice President of Amcham Slovakia, and he represents the European steel industry on the Advisory Committee for Industrial Change, which is part of the European Economic and Social Committee.

Juraj Sabol is USSK General Manager Strategy and Project Management. He forms Company policy on strategic topics including decarbonization and implementation of digital technologies.

In the interview you will find out:

   • when and how the largest steel producer in Slovakia plans to reduce emissions,

    • why the key issue is getting the "green steel" market up and running,

    • why the state itself must have a clear policy on planning large infrastructure projects,

    • how Slovakia can effectively achieve its climate objectives,

    • whether it's getting easier to breathe in the Košice region.
