After 38 years of work for the Košice steelworks, Vice President Human Resources Martin Pitorák has decided to give up his position at U. S. Steel Košice as of August 31, 2019 and go into retirement.

Martin Pitorák graduated from the Faculty of Metallurgy at the Technical University of Košice in 1981 and immediately started work at the Cold Rolling Mill in the position of supervisor and later as head of section in the Rolling Trains operation. For four years he managed the Tin Mill plant, and in 1994 he worked together with consultants from McKinsey as project manager in the PILOT project, aimed at promoting management potential and reducing costs in the former compnay VSŽ Oceľ. From 1995 to 1997 he was responsible for sales on the Slovak and Czech markets, and a year later he transferred to the VSŽ U. S. Steel Košice joint venture, where he became commissioner for quality and head of the Human Resources Department. In 1999 he moved back to VSŽ itself and joined the team of Gabriel Eichler as Vice President for Human Resources. After the steelmaking operations were taken over by U. S. Steel in November 2000 he stayed working in the Human Resources section. He was initially Vice President for Personnel Management and Organization, and since 2007 he has been Vice President Human Resources and a company officer.
