Kosice, February 20, 2008 - Today, at the Secondary Vocational School for Metallurgy in Kosice-Saca (SOUH), a special Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) training
room was put into use, which will serve as the center of first contact for students concerning OSH issues. The training room is the product of close cooperation between the school and the
steel-making company U. S. Steel Kosice. It can serve as an example for other entities in the education and production environments for the education of young technicians, with the aim
of improving the quality of the education process and providing a sufficient number of qualified graduates for the needs of production companies.
"It is in our interests too that future metallurgists can acquire similar experience in the OSH center as our workers at the Cardinal Rules Training Center.
Our common goal is that the students should acquire not only professional knowledge and skills, but also safe working habits and a sense of responsibility." emphasized the President of
U. S. Steel Kosice Mr. David H. Lohr. "This method of teaching will be much more professional, direct and effective," added Mr. Jozef Sablatura, the
Principal of the school, whose students complete regular professional practice in the workshops of the Kosice steel company.
The school built this training room with a capacity of 30 students within a few months, in close cooperation with OSH experts from U. S. Steel Kosice. It
will become the place of illustrative use of personal protective equipment and practical contact in the field of occupational safety. The teachers and the students will have available modern
teaching and audio-visual equipment.
The setting up of this training room has been supported by the grant program of U. S. Steel Kosice named More Safely in Schools, whose aim is to increase
the safety of pupils, students and teachers at schools in the Kosice and Presov regions.
