Many a steelmaker sported a yellow daffodil on their jacket or coat on Thursday, April 11 this year, when U. S. Steel Košice joined in once again with the nationwide fundraising by the Anti-Cancer League.
This was the twenty-third time that Daffodil Day took place in Slovakia, reminding people about the issue of tumorous diseases and spurring their sense of fellow-feeling and solidarity with oncology patients. Many of our colleagues volunteered to stand with collection-boxes at various points around the steelworks together with Anti-Cancer League activists. Thanks to people’s voluntary contributions they succeeded in raising 5450 euros, which is 350 euros more than last year.
The proceeds from Daffodil Day will be allocated by the Anti-Cancer League to various medical research projects, health-care providers and hospices, or used to support mental and social care for cancer patients and their families, as well as education and awareness-raising.
