The historical building of Košice State Theater was filled on the evening of Friday, June 10, by current and former employees of U. S. Steel Košice Steel Plants division with their spouses and guests, who came to recall and celebrate half a century of steel production at the Košice works. This jubilee occasion was linked with the date June 8, 1966, when the first oxygen converter melt was tapped, making it also the date when the steelmaking cycle was completed.
The fifty-year history of the steelworks, commented Steel Plants Division Director Marek Lukačín in his speech, has been characterized by the construction, modernization and implementation of new production capacity, new processes and technical procedures, as well as by a great many records. The celebratory meeting culminated with a performance of the ballet Spartacus.
