V4 Presidents in Kosice

Following their accession to the European Union on May 1st of this year, cooperation among the Vysehrad Four countries will continue to have purpose and significance. This was the declaration made by the Presidents of Slovakia, Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic during their two-day meeting in Kosice last week. At the press conference it was said that they intend to concentrate mainly on joint projects and programs, particularly on regional development and cross-border cooperation. On Friday morning Rudolf Schuster, Ferenc Madl, Aleksander Kwasnievski and Vaclav Klaus made time after their plenary discussions for a question-and-answer forum with university students from all over Eastern Slovakia.

Legends shine at ice-hockey exhibition

For all those who crammed into the spectators' stands at the Cermel winter stadium in Kosice last Friday to see the Ice-hockey Concert substantially sponsored by U. S. Steel Kosice, there were no regrets. A whole pleiad of outstanding hockey players from past seasons, including several world champions, took to the ice for an exhibition match between Kosice and the World Champions' Selection.
Many fans well remember the former Kosice players, but they were especially interested in those now playing in the Czech Republic who in the past took Kosice to fame in the league. From the starting bully onwards, which was thrown in by the President of the Slovak Republic Rudolf Schuster, a tough battle broke out on the ice between former opponents and national team fellows alike. The final result itself was not so important - the match finished Kosice 5:Champions 7 (0:0, 2:1, 3:3) - but rather the idea of genuine, unfeigned ice-hockey enjoyment in the company of hockey stars.
The relaxed atmosphere and great mood, but especially the emotions experienced by the former players and old friends, all produced lasting, beautiful hockey memories for the crowds of spectators.
