Top managers assess half-year results

On Thursday of last week U. S. Steel Kosice President Christopher Navetta attended a meeting of the Company's top managers at which they assessed the half-year results. President Navetta expressed his thanks to all employees for the excellent results achieved during the first six months of this year.
"We value very highly all the efforts and the work of our employees, who have proved once again that they form a good team." He described the prospects for the rest of the year as most favorable. It is necessary to continue saving costs and increasing efficiency and productivity, and continuous improvement is indispensable in all workplaces, bearing in mind that priority number one at U. S. Steel Kosice has always been and will always be occupational safety.

Regular meeting of USSK President with trades unionists

On Thursday, August 8th, one of the regular meetings was held between U. S. Steel Kosice President Christopher Navetta and leaders of the biggest trades-union organization representing Company employees, members of the Trades Union Council of Metalurg U. S. Steel Kosice. The participants in the meeting, which was also attended by Vice-president Human Resources Miroslav Kiralvarga, discussed the current situation in the Company with regard to production, financial management, human resources, occupational safety and pay and bonuses.

Cardinal Rules

The guidelines for safety at work in U. S. Steel Kosice are the Cardinal Rules, which were originally prepared for Central Maintenance. Very shortly these rules will become an integral part of work in all Company divisions and plants, and for contractor firms aas well.

International youth soccer tournament

Last weekend the East Slovakian Region hosted the very first edition of the Gejza Princ Memorial international soccer tournament for under-15 boys. The late Gejza Princ was a first-division soccer referee from Kosice who for many years was also an important sports official, ultimately Chairman of the East Slovakian Football Association.
In honor of this former soccer activist, four teams measured their strengths in this tournament, namely selections from the Borsod Shire in Hungary, the Subcarpathian Football Association from Rzeszow in Poland, the Central Slovakian Football Association, and our own East Slovakian Football Association. The event was supported as a sponsor by U. S. Steel Kosice. The victors of this first annual edition of the tournament, and thus the holders of the Touring Cup, turned out to be the select team of the Central Slovakian Football Association, who did not lose a single match during the tournament.

U. S. Steel Kosice supports pilot project for sight-impaired children

Creative workshops for sight-impaired children in Kosice and the Spis Chapter are part of a pilot project initiated by the FEMAN Association, now in cooperation with the Kosice Regional Center of the SR Union of the Sight-Impaired, and also sponsored by U. S. Steel Kosice. The aim of the "Dark-Blue World" project is to use weekend training workshops involving painting and sculpture, movement and dance to present the artistic creativity of sight-impaired youngsters in a cultural entertainment program.
Last but not least of the project's outcomes would be its contribution to developing a feeling of equality and removing the barriers between young people with sight impairments and their fully-sighted peers. The project is intended to culminate in a benefit concert, taking place in the House of Art in Kosice on November 17th 2004, and an exhibition with sales of artefacts created by sight-impaired youngsters during the workshops, planned for St.Nicholas' Day, December 6th, this year.
