Meeting with long-serving employees
Friday of last week saw the beginning of a series of meetings of U. S. Steel Kosice top managers with employees who this year reach a significant milestone - 30, 35 or 40 years of working for the Company. Part of every meeting will be a celebration dinner at which each long-serving employee will receive a commemorative plaque and a letter of thanks from U. S. Steel Kosice President Christopher Navetta. In addition, women who have worked at the steelworks for 35 or 40 years and men with 40 years of employment here will be presented with a token of appreciation in the form of a wrist-watch.
American Chamber of Commerce Board session at USSK
Representatives of more than 20 important Slovak companies and subsidiaries of foreign firms working in Slovakia visited U. S. Steel Kosice last week. The
visit was organized in cooperation with U. S. Steel Kosice by the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosice and Bratislava as part of their project for exchange of experience and
familiarization with the activities of the companies and organizations that are members of the American Chamber of Commerce in the Slovak Republic, and other firms which work together with them
in various fields.
The company representatives were welcomed in the U. S. Steel Kosice Gallery on Thursday morning by Company President Christopher Navetta and Vice-president
Operations Scott Pape. In the afternoon there was a session at U. S. Steel Kosice of the Board of the American Chamber of Commerce in the Slovak Republic.
Senior citizens have their own Internet tea-shop
The first Internet tea-shop in Slovakia, set up with assistance from U. S. Steel Kosice as one of the sponsors, was launched last week for the senior citizens of Kosice. It was opened on Thursday, September 16th at no.68, Main Street by the not-for-profit organization Senior Dom. The tea-shop is intended for everyone who, while elderly and already retired, are still keen to lead an active life. The founders expect the people who come to the tea-shop to include not only those who are already familiar with information and communication technologies, but also others who are interested in learning to work with them.
Hospital gains certificates
The Kosice-Saca Hospital, the first private hospital in Slovakia, has also become the very first health-care institution in the former Czechoslovakia to successfully
accomplish an integrated quality certification audit. The presentation of certificates, issued by the company SGS for the integrated system of quality management and environmental management in
line with the ISO standards 9001: 2000 and 14001, took place on Friday, September 17th, and was attended by U. S. Steel Kosice President Christopher Navetta, Vice-president Strategic
Implementation Anton Jura, Vice-president Human Resources Miroslav Kiralvarga, Vice-president Information Technology Peter Richardson and other guests.
"We want to practise good medicine, and we are well prepared for this," said Kosice-Saca Hospital Director Juraj Vancik. In his speech he also appreciated the
partnership with U. S. Steel Kosice, which the hospital staff see as being cooperative and homely.
The Oldest in Europe
This is the title given by the Organizing Committee of the international Kosice Peace Marathon to the fourth in the series of books it has published about the historical development of the Kosice race. This year Europe's oldest marathon celebrates a significant milestone - the 80th anniversary of the initial event. To mark this anniversary an exhibition was opened on Friday of last week named Eighty Years of Marathon Running in Kosice 1924 - 2004, and at the same time the presentation took place of the new book by sports publicist and author Stefan Hazucha.
