Vice-president Operations Scott C. Pape visits Saca Metallurgy School
An invitation to pay a short visit to the Secondary Metallurgical Apprentice School in Kosice-Saca was accepted on Thursday afternoon of last week by USSK
Vice-president Operations Scott C. Pape. He talked with Principal Jozef Sablatura about the history of the school, which this year celebrates the 40th anniversary of its foundation, its teaching
department specializations and its future existence.
The school was established to serve the needs of the steelworks now owned by U. S. Steel, and today its graduates make up almost 60 per cent of the
company's workforce. In this school year there are more than 240 twelfth and thirteenth grade students gaining work experience in the steelworks production plants. At the meeting Vice-president
Scott Pape gave credit to the part played by teachers in educating young, capable and qualified people.
He welcomed the information that the issue of occupational safety receives great attention in the school. Proof of this is the fact that every workshop used for
practical skills training has its own specially-developed work-safety and technical regulations.

Meeting for electricity producers and distributors
Each monthly meeting of producers and distributors of electrical and thermal energy in the Slovak Republic is hosted by a different company. The most recent meeting, on September 22nd and 23rd, took place at U. S. Steel Kosice. The program also included a plant tour. As Ocel Vychodu heard from Pavel Orszag, Head of Production Control and Energy Distribution at USSK Power Division, which oversaw the whole meeting event, the works made a great impression on his colleagues.
