Job and Internship Fair
Today, March 9th, the House of Art in Kosice is the venue for this year's Job and Internship Fair, which is being organized in our city again after the good experience of last year by the American Chamber of Commerce in Slovakia. U. S. Steel Kosice, which is the principal sponsor of the event, has its own stand at the fair, and there will also be a presentation by Vice-president Personnel and Organization Martin Pitorak. The aim of the event is to help college and university students find their way to suitable employment opportunities. The American Chamber of Commerce in Slovakia was the organizer of another event with similar focus which took place for the sixth time now in Bratislava on March 1st last week.
Improvement in all areas
At the end of February USSK subsidiary OBAL - SERVIS, a.s. Kosice underwent the second re-inspection audit of its quality management system in line with the standard EN ISO 9001:2000. The auditors from RW TŰV Bratislava paid most attention to the performance of packaging services in the products packaging operations at the Cold Strip Mill and Secondary Metallurgy divisions, and in doing so they found distinct improvement in the standard of cooperation in the area of packaging activity planning and the logistics of packaging materials planning. It was during the first half of last year that OBAL - SERVIS, a.s. joined the group of subsidiary companies of U. S. Steel Kosice.
Modernization at the Radiator Plant
U. S. Steel Kosice exports its in-house produced radiators to sixteen countries around the world. This among other things says a great deal about their
competitiveness. Customers' growing interest in them is in turn complemented by record figures achieved in production and sales. Last year was the third record year in a row for both the
production and the sales teams. Our heating units can also boast of gaining the Slovak Gold quality product award in 2002.
The radiators on offer represent the whole range of types and lengths that are common on the European market. In addition the sales team are capable of responding
promptly to customers' special demands, which frequently involve requirements for smooth fronts and center-base connections. The plant got its second wind when U. S. Steel took over the
Kosice steelworks. In the intervening five years several capital investment projects have been implemented. Most recently the reconstruction and modernization of the pressure tanks has been
completed, and a new automatic fittings welding machine has been installed that enables the production of compact-valve type radiators to be increased, as this type is growing in popularity with
customers.
New investors are coming
A year and a half has passed since the official opening of the Kechnec Industrial Park, which today covers an area of 332 hectares (about 500 soccer pitches). Two
companies are already quite at home here - Molex Slovakia, a.s. and Gilbos Slovakia, s.r.o. - and another four new investors are now building their plants: Dorsvet Plus, Evans, Imrich Camaj and
JISIMEX. Moreover, Kechnec has signed contracts with three further investors - the companies Plastipak, Kuenz Slovensko and V.O.D.S. - and the extraordinarily good news is that another very
important strategic investor is preparing to set up here by the name of Getrag Ford Transmissions.
This is the principal information which media representatives learned at last week's press conference directly in the village of Kechnec itself. Council leader Jozef
Konkoly and representatives of the present and future investors described their experience so far with the operation of the industrial park, and outlined their ideas and intentions for the
future.
