People's Ambassador is leaving
Ambassador Rodolphe M. Vallee was real people's ambassador, met lot of people, villages and towns, talk to large number of people. He tried to help visa free travel, helped with number of educational and other projects on both sides. We could turn to him or the Embassy he led at anytime. Those were the words U. S. Steel President David H. Lohr used when thanking the USA Ambassador to Slovakia Mr. Rodolphe M. Vallee for the cooperation and support during his tenure in Slovakia. The Ambassador will remember his meetings with USSK employees also thanks to the painting by a Kosice painter Janka Ondruskova given to him by the USSK President D. Lohr on November 29 during Amcham members session held in Kosice Old Town Hall. The paining was created during painters session Metallurgists paining with Artists - Medzev 2007.
SBS successfully renews certificate
On November 22nd 2007 the first renewal audit was carried out on the quality management system (QMS) at USSK subsidiary U. S. Steel Kosice - SBS, s.r.o., which was supposed to demonstrate the company's fulfillment of the requirements of standard EN ISO 9001:2000. "SBS gained its certificate in 2003, and since then its QMS has been verified at regular yearly intervals - always successfully, I should add," says Quality Commissioner Róbert Kulik.
Visit the U. S. Steel Kosice Hut
Find a bit of time in the early evening today, December 5th, and come downtown to Main Street by the Immaculata monument after 4.30 together with your children to welcome St. Nicholas and witness the grand lighting up of the city's Christmas tree and decorations, which marks the beginning of the Kosice Christmas festivities. Awaiting you and your kids is a load of good entertainment, music and dancing. And don't forget to visit the U. S. Steel Kosice Hut, because if you stop off there any time until December 23rd this year, you will receive a token gift - a card with personal thanks from President David H. Lohr for your contribution to the success the Company has achieved this year, and a milk chocolate bar as well. The Company Hut had its premiere at last year's Kosice Christmas Market, and again we're giving the chance to fifteen not-for-profit organizations to present their activities and tell people more about their mission. And you can help them too in carrying out their humanitarian activities. The Hut is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
They can save the sight of 4000 children
On Sunday evening, December 2nd, the House of Art in Kosice was the venue for the 5th edition of the annual charity concert named Autumn Harmony. This event aims to help the needy and is organized by the 1st Kosice Lions Club and its partners, one of which is U. S. Steel Kosice. The proceeds from this concert are intended for people with sight disabilities. U. S. Steel Kosice Vice-president Human Resources Martin Pitorak handed over a financial gift for the Lions Clubs International Foundation. The check for 2000 American dollars was accepted by the Governor of District 122, the Czech and Slovak Republics, for the period 2007/2008, Tomas Ryba.
Metallurgy Days
The 9th in the series of international conferences named Youth, Specialization, Choice of Profession, this time on the theme Give Our Earth a Chance, taking place on the premises of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, began yesterday, December 4th, as is now traditional with the Metallurgy Days. This event has been organized by the Secondary Technical School for Metallurgy in Kosice in cooperation with U. S. Steel Kosice and the Hutnik Civic Association. Part of the event is today's grand assembly on the occasion of the 135th anniversary of the founding of the first industrial school in Greater Hungary. There will also be the official opening of a new multi-purpose sports ground, the building of which was sponsored by the Kosice steelworks, and this evening sees the holding of the traditional shaft-furnacemen's guild celebration named Sachtak.
