Let's make our city more beautiful... and better!
"Solidarity, humanity, charity, the desire to help, to do something for other people. Just like that. These characteristics have never been alien to us steelmakers.
Many of us devote our time, energy, knowledge or skills to the benefit of other people - well knowing that voluntary work, linking human and professional assistance, usually enriches the provider
as well as the receiver. Our altruistic assistance is recalled with respect in many organizations, foster homes, social centers and health institutions... And now we're being offered another
opportunity to prove that we're not indifferent to our surroundings.
The U. S. Steel Kosice Volunteer Days, which had their debut last year, involving the participation of individuals and whole working teams alike, are
growing into an event with ever greater dimensions. Let's make our city more beautiful... and better. Through the project named Our Kosice. Just next month, on May 16th and 17th 2008. If you
decide for Kosice Zoo, on May 17th you can look forward to installing and painting the wooden frames and crossbars for the tents in the camp where your children too will be able to spend more
than one interesting and exciting night. They're also awaiting helping hands at the Home of Tranquil Old Age, where ninety senior citizens live. The grounds with an acre or so of park are
protected by a walled fence, which the ravages of time have left their mark on. It could well do with a new coat of paint...
We'll be very happy on May 17th to welcome all those who want to help give the fence a new look. The paint-pots are all prepared, as are the rollers... There's some
fairly demanding work awaiting the volunteers there, because painting 280 square meters of wall and the façade of the little house standing in the park is not going to be child's play. If you
decide to help out at the Zoo or the old people's home, don't forget to bring some working gloves and suitable clothes! Everything else will be taken care of. If you want to bring your children
with you, and they are under 15 years of age, then you'd better choose the Zoo or the Fun-Sports Area on Alejova Street in Kosice (more about this next issue). While you're working, your children
will have playgrounds available with people to supervise them - but only in these two latter places. Volunteers will also be warmly welcomed in the waiting-room at the blood-transfusion
department in the Saca Hospital outpatients' clinic in the Public Access Area of U. S. Steel Kosice.
During last year's USSK Volunteer Days 2007, more than eighty Company employees supported the Steelmakers' Drop of Blood campaign. It was not only the regular,
multiple donors who came, but also first-timers, groups of colleagues from single workplaces, family members too… The atmosphere was marvellous. They'll be waiting for blood donors between 6 am
and 1 pm on May 16th.
