Repairs Division completes year without injury
U. S. Steel Kosice Repairs Division, part of the domain of GM Production Support, has become the second team, after the Services Division in the same
domain, to succeed in working for a year without injury. To mark this achievement there was a working lunch meeting last week to which U. S. Steel Kosice President George F. Babcoke and
Vice President Operations Matthew B. Perkins invited nine operations managers, section heads and the technical diagnostics manager.
The expressions of gratitude and appreciation for their results which they heard from the members of the top management apply to all of the Division employees. The
participants continued the meeting with a discussion of projects aiming to increase safety which the maintenance team are already implementing, and those which they are planning to bring into
action.

Wishing Trees Concert
The Wishing Trees Christmas charity concert in Kosice State Theater on December 12th was the culmination of U. S. Steel Kosice's year-round charity
activity. The whole project bearing the same name was supervised by the wife of the President of USSK, Mrs. Kathleen Babcoke. The steelworks employees contributed to the fulfillment of children's
Christmas wishes in three East Slovakian foster homes, in Secovce, Slovenske Nove Mesto and Dobsina, and also joined in the voluntary fund-raising, the proceeds of which this year are destined
for the East Slovakian Institute for Cardio-vascular Diseases in Kosice for the purchase of top-quality equipment. This comes after a year of involvement in other projects and activities for the
benefit of the local community.
As George Babcoke said in his speech at the Concert, the motto of social responsibility is: We help those who need and deserve our help. The voluntary fund-raising
involved 11 148 employees of the parent company USSK and its subsidiaries, who together donated a total of 1 247 120 SKK (41 396.80 €). Identical sums were also contributed by the
Company and by the USSK Foundation, so the support for the Institute was trebled, reaching the final total of 3 741 360 SKK (124 190.40 €).
