KORAD radiators are 40 years old

KORAD heating units (KOsice RADiators) produced by U. S. Steel Kosice are 40 years old. During this time a total of 85 mil. m2 panel radiators have left the steelworks, manufactured from cold-rolled steel sheet. The very first Kosice radiator came off the production line in 1968, but it is the P90 type, which the steelmakers began producing in 1990, that is still made with various modifications to this day. The Radiator Plant holds quality and environmental management certificates in line with the standards ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14 001:2004, and in 2006 the Korad radiator was awarded the Grand Prix Slovak Gold.

Chance for steelmakers

The second edition of the annual grant program entitled "Together for the Region", which offers not-for-profit organizations and local government bodies in the Kosice and Presov regions the chance to get financial resources for supporting community activities, was announced yesterday, December 9, by the Carpathian Foundation. This grant program with a budget of one million Slovak crowns (33 193.91 s) is prepared in cooperation with U. S. Steel Kosice. Support will be available for projects focusing on leisure-time activities for children and young people, environmental upbringing and education, safety, sport, preservation of cultural values and cooperation among various cultures.

Metallurgy School celebrates

The Secondary Technical School for Metallurgy in Kosice has organized several events to commemorate the 45th anniversary of its establishment as a separate school. It has hosted the 10th international specialist conference on the theme of "Clean Technology - Clean Earth", a ceremonial academy and an anniversary meeting for the Guild of Steelmakers and their friends, and held a sports tournament and an Open Day. The School is especially proud of its graduates, who are able as industrial specialists to make their careers in the branches of metallurgy, particularly steelmaking and casting, combined technologies, technical and informatics services, occupational safety and health protection, and environmental protection.

High school students on emigration from developing countries

The last few days saw the first nationwide Slovakian round of the English debating league, held in Kosice thanks to support from U. S. Steel Kosice and the British Council Slovakia. The tournament involved over forty high school students and seventeen referees, and invitations were also accepted by two three-member teams from the Czech Republic. The young speakers debated on the theme of emigration from developing to developed countries.
