Amendment to Collective Agreement signed
This Monday, May 25th, representatives of U. S. Steel Kosice top management and of Metalurg Trades Union Council came together to sign Amendment No.1 to the U. S. Steel Kosice Collective Agreement for the years 2008 - 2011. For the first time in the history of the Company, the employer came to an agreement - in compliance with the Law on Collective Bargaining - with just one of the three trades union organizations operating at USSK, namely the Metalurg Trades Union, which has the greatest number of members. According to statements from representatives of the employees and the employer alike, the agreement on this Amendment reflects the current global situation on the steel market and the worldwide economic uncertainty.
Special award for U. S. Steel Kosice
In the eighth edition of the annual competition entitled Employers with Feeling for Family, Equality of Gender and Opportunity in 2008, organized by the SR Ministry for Employment, Social Affairs and Family, U. S. Steel Kosice won a special award for the creation and sustainability of the project named Equality of Opportunity - Work for the Roma, which tackles the situation of long-term unemployed people with the aim of reducing unemployment in this region and improving the living standard of the Roma. This project has proved to be particularly successful, and in this respect U. S. Steel Kosice is an employer who can serve as an example worth following and motivation for other employers, the Ministry concludes.
Staff changes in the Primary sector
Following the departure of GM Primary James R. Gray for the United States, this position is to be taken over by Marcel Novosad, who until now has been Director of the Blast Furnaces Division. The new Blast Furnaces Director is Marek Jenco, who was chief support manager in this division. These changes became effective May 15th 2009.
