Discussions on occupational safety

Members of the top management of U. S. Steel Kosice, general managers, divisional directors and subsidiary company managers met for discussions together with trade union representatives on Monday of this week, June 15th, regarding innovative approaches in the area of occupational safety. The aim of the meeting was to seek and find further possibilities for making the corporate culture of safety more effective, by making clear to employees what is most important. The participants emphasized that the safety of each individual takes first place and has priority over the meeting of production targets.

USSK President meets volunteers

Last Wednesday, June 10th, U. S. Steel Kosice President George F. Babcoke held an informal session to meet several dozen steelmakers who were active participants in the volunteer events recently organized by the Kosice steelworks. At the meeting, also attended by Vice President Human Resources Martin Pitorak and Vice President Operations Patrick J. Mullarkey, the President spoke with the guests about the impulses which led them into their voluntary activity, and discussed ideas and suggestions for the way the steelmakers' assistance could be directed in the future. The title of U. S. Steel Kosice Volunteer of the Year 2009 was awarded to Projects Management Department member Annamaria Tothova.

U. S. Steel Kosice is carrying on throughout 2009 with its social program for employees, providing everyone with various benefits. French winner of Challenger Open Kosice tennis tournament

The winner of the 7th edition of the annual ATP Challenger Tour tennis tournament known as the Edymax Holding Kosice Open, which culminated last Saturday, June 13th, was the French player Stephane Robert. This is the biggest success for this 29-year-old tennis player since he last won a Challenger trophy in 2003. In the coming days he will be starting in the qualifying round for the Wimbledon tournament. The proceeds from the auction of gifts and articles donated by some of the world's elite players, as well as the amount collected in voluntary entrance payments, have been presented by the tournament organizers to the Cystic Fibrosis Center at the University Children's Hospital in Kosice. George F. Babcoke and Miroslav Kiralvarga actively participated in the auction.
