Volunteer Days attract over 400 USSK employees
The fourth edition of the annual volunteer event named U. S. Steel for Kosice, which took place on May 14th and 15th this year, attracted more than four hundred employees of the steelmaking company and its partner institutions, together with their family members. They assisted eight Kosice organizations with their public-benefit activities. The event opened traditionally with the Steelmakers' Drop of Blood donor campaign, and a collection mainly of superfluous clothing and shoes for children. The major part of the activities was carried out on Saturday, May 15th, with the volunteers halping out at the Rubikon Autistic Center, the Botanical Gardens, St.Luke's Geriatric Center, Haniska Animal Shelter, the Combined School, and Kosice Zoo.
TÜV NORD Slovakia auditors re-verify QMS fulfillment
The results of a three-day review audit at U. S. Steel Kosice verifying fulfillment of the quality management system in line with the ISO/TS 16949:2009 standard for the automotive industry and the QMS based on ISO 9001:2008 were passed on to Company management by the auditors of the certification company TÜV NORD Slovakia at their concluding meeting on May 19th. The results of their review were summarized by TÜV NORD Slovakia Deputy Director and Head of the TÜV NORD CERT certification center for Slovakia Peter Hornik. He confirmed that the four-member auditor team, just as in their preceding audits, had not found any serious deviations from the taxative regulations of the QM standards. In his assessment of the separate areas of the standards, he analyzed the Company's strong points, and went on to draw the management's attention to areas which, though fulfilling the requirements, have further potential that can be used and presented to customers as a value that could influence their selection. The outcome of the audit will be confirmation of USSK's QMS certificates for a further period, accompanied by the auditors' report.
George F. Babcoke to be member of AmCham Board of Directors
U. S. Steel Kosice President George F. Babcoke was elected at the Annual General Meeting of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in the Slovak Republic on May 12th 2010 as a member of the AmCham Board of Directors. Fourteen candidates stood in this year's elections, representing AmCham member companies, and the winning ten candidates were elected for a two-year period. A further eight members of the Board of Directors keep their positions based on their mandates from last year's elections.
National Maintenance Forum
Yesterday, May 25th, saw the beginning in the High Tatras of the two-day international conference called National Maintenance Forum 2010. The tenth edition of this annual event has been prepared by the Slovakian Maintenance Society. This forum for maintenance staff focuses on themes of best practice and management of maintenance, information systems and support for maintenance, progressive maintenance technologies, predictive maintenance and diagnostics, safety, and other company-specific topics. The conference features active participation by representatives of U. S. Steel Kosice.
