Founding meeting of U. S. Steel Kosice Women's Network
U. S. Steel Kosice has joined the worldwide Women's Network, which has active membership in the American and Canadian operations of the USS Corporation.
The founding meeting of USSK Women's Network took place on September 22nd, 2010. The aim of this network is above all to support and promote opportunities for women. The goal of the initiative,
as presented by USSK Vice President Traci Lynn Vaughan, is to create an environment throughout the Corporation which will motivate women and support them in all phases of their professional
careers. The first steps to this end could be seen as early as in 2008, when the Corporation management in Pittsburgh created the Section for Diversity.
The newly-emerging association at the Kosice steelworks wants to bring women opportunities for further development, starting with the cultivation of skills and
sharing of knowledge, moving on to charitable activities and other initiatives. In doing so, the platform considers using tools such as mentoring, coaching, organizing events and running charity
projects.
Another children's playground sponsored by U. S. Steel Kosice
Last week in Cecejovce, a village with around two thousand inhabitants, an attractive relaxation zone and children's playground were made available for use in the grounds of the kindergarten and elementary school. The official opening was attended by representatives of U. S. Steel Kosice and the Carpathian Foundation, which gave this project the green light as part of the third edition of the annual grant program "Together for the Region", as well as by volunteers from the ranks of the Kosice steelmakers who shared in the building of the playground.
Record participation by marathoners
The organizers of the Kosice Peace Marathon are very pleased. Four days before the start of the 87th edition of the oldest annual marathon event in Europe, the general sponsor of which is U. S. Steel Kosice, more than 5300 long-distance runners from 36 countries are registered for the various race categories. Since last year was the first occasion on which the five-thousand participants figure was exceeded, with the number of 5074, this year sees the setting of a new participation record.
